Skylight of the English Passage in Bucharest.
The Passage is one of the nicest examples of XIX th century eclecticism in Bucharest , but for years , it is inhabited by mostly poor and unschooled people who have no sense of recognition for the building they are living in , rejecting strangers and acting violently to attempts of photographing .
A recent cleansing of the passage has calmed their spirits for a little while. I have managed to take a walk on the cursive of the building and take a few shots. This is one of them.
Unfortunately , my second attempt to do that has been greeted with a little bit of violence from the dwellers. I had to leave the building , being really pissed off an demoralised.
Not only that the legislation for protection of the monuments in Romania is very poor and badly put into practice , but also , if this kind of reticent , unapreciative and unculturalised people keep inhabiting this kind of buildings , i don’t see any close future escape from their degrading situation.
